BRIEF: Completed in 2017, the design brief for this 2+ acre garden in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, was to create a greater sense of arrival to a large house formerly made-up of several cottages; clarify the main path entrance which had little sense of priority and integrate a new enlarged porch. A new parking and garaging area linked to the main house was needed as well as new planted areas to the front which was previously lawn.

DESIGN SOLUTION: Using broad-brush curved paths and hedges, punctuated by groups of trees, the design creates a greater sense of grandeur and focus to the front elevation of the house and the curved hedging creates new enclosures for planting, sculpture and seating. The garage area is screened off from the main entrance but clearly close-by and accessible.
