A new front garden with a new ‘sense of arrival’ and improved functionality.
The brief for this three acre garden in Hertfordshire was to create a greater sense of arrival to a large house formerly made-up of several cottages; clarify the main path entrance which had little sense of priority and integrate a new enlarged porch. New parking and garage areas were needed, as well as new planted borders to the front.
Using broad-brush curved paths and hedges, punctuated by groups of Birch trees and a feature Acer griseum, the design creates a greater sense of grandeur and focus to the front elevation of the house and the curved hedging creates new enclosures for planting, sculpture and seating. The garage area is screened from the main entrance but clearly close-by and accessible.
