BRIEF: The brief for this small garden in Flackwell Heath, Buckinghamshire, was to incorporate a covered seating area/gazebo, an existing swing seat, vegetable plots, a water feature and a gravel garden.

DESIGN SOLUTION: Being North-facing, the obvious design solution was to create a new dining and socialising space at the sunnier end of the garden with new gazebo alongside a paved terrace and vegetable plots. Access to the new space was via a new gravel path and planting area flanked by clipped Buxus cubes or across a new artificial lawn, which the client had already decided on. Multi-stem trees along the boundary provided additional privacy from neighbouring windows and a multi-stem Birch created a focal point in the main planting area.
