BRIEF: This house had a relatively new extension and the garden needed a redesign to work with the new structure and openings / windows. The requirement was for a larger terrace which would unify the new access from the extension and the existing terrace. A children’s play area in the back area was needed and an existing shed needed to be retained. There was little planting structure in the garden so new trees were a must.

DESIGN SOLUTION: A terrace angled at 45 degrees from the house ensures that both seating areas are unified, whilst also creating an opportunity to zig-zag the route through the garden, to make it feel bigger and add interest through planting beds at the same angle which interrupt the view. Three new multi-stem trees have been added to the ‘pinch-points’ in the design, along with some screening for the treehouse / den at the back.
